A devastating road accident claimed the life of Rajiv Ruparelia, son of renowned property mogul Sudhir Ruparelia, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The fatal single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 2:00 AM at the Busabala Flyover traffic lights in Makindye Ssabagabo, Wakiso District. According to Traffic and Road Safety spokesperson Michael Kananura, the accident involved a Nissan GTR, registration number UAT 638L, which was traveling from Kajjansi toward Munyonyo.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver lost control after the vehicle collided with temporary pavements installed at the roundabout section of the flyover. The vehicle overturned and caught fire, resulting in the instant death of the driver, who was later identified as Mr. Rajiv Ruparelia.

While the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, eyewitnesses—who preferred to remain anonymous—reported that the vehicle was moving at very high speed. They also pointed out the lack of proper signage warning of the reinstated temporary roundabout, which had been reintroduced by the Ministry of Works and Transport following community concerns. These changes were reportedly made in response to a presidential directive aimed at curbing fatal accidents in the area, especially involving motorcycles and pedestrians.

“We will provide updates to the public as more information becomes available,” said Kananura.
The nation mourns this tragic loss. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Rajiv Ruparelia during this incredibly difficult time.
