Police Halts NUP Community Outreach Event in Entebbe

By Racheal N Namuli

Police officers led by OC Station Nabbale disrupted a National Unity Platform (NUP) community gathering at Kiwafu Playground in Entebbe Municipality, organized by Babirye Lillian, a known NUP supporter and founder of the Babirye Cares Foundation.

According to Babirye, she had notified the police about the event a month in advance and was shocked by the sudden and forceful intervention.

Several dignitaries, including Members of Parliament Hon. Betty Nambooze (Mpigi) and Hon. Suzan Mugabi (Buvuma), as well as Entebbe Deputy Mayor Charles Kabwama, were present and faced police resistance during the disruption.

Babirye explained that the event aimed to raise environmental awareness by promoting the use of eco-friendly charcoal stoves and distributing gumboots to support local fishermen. She expressed disappointment over the interference, accusing rival political actors of orchestrating the disruption.

“This was a community initiative to support our people and protect the environment. Those behind this disruption are not against me—they’re against progress for the common Ugandan,” Babirye said.

She urged the residents of Entebbe to remain steadfast in standing up for truth and the rights of the underprivileged.

Deputy Mayor Kabwama condemned the police’s actions, calling the use of force unnecessary and unjustified.
