Shock and grief gripped the people of Kamuli District this morning following the tragic death of their LC5 Chairperson, Maxwell Kuwembula Mugude, in a fatal road accident.
The crash occurred around 4:40 AM in Nakifuma, Mukono District, involving a Pajero vehicle, registration number UG 699M, driven by Kuwembula, and a parked truck, UBR 835K.

According to preliminary information, Kuwembula was en route to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala to collect nomination papers when the accident happened near Nakifuma Trust Medical Center.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the incident, stating that Kuwembula’s vehicle rammed into the stationary truck. He died on the spot, with his body discovered trapped in the mangled wreckage.

Police officers from Naggalama are currently investigating the cause of the crash. The body was retrieved from the wreckage and transported to the City Mortuary in Mulago for a postmortem examination.
Onyango also revealed that the driver of the parked truck, which had reportedly developed mechanical issues, is currently on the run. Efforts to trace and apprehend him are ongoing.
The fatal incident came just hours after the Ministry of Works and Transport suspended the controversial automatic traffic EPS fines, following nationwide complaints about their severity.
