MP Barnabas Tinkasimire Reportedly Abducted, Police Deny Involvement

By Robert Segawa

Police have denied any involvement in the arrest of Buyaga West Member of Parliament, Barnabas Tinkasimire, who was reportedly taken by unknown individuals on Saturday evening.

According to eyewitnesses, Hon. Tinkasimire was arrested at Rubi’s Petrol Station by unidentified people who forced him into a waiting omnibus, commonly referred to as a “drone,” and drove him away to an unknown location. His whereabouts remain unknown.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Rusoke Kituuma, stated that the police were not involved in the arrest and only learned of the incident when Tinkasimire’s wife filed a missing person report at Wandegeya Police Station.

Kituuma added that he had contacted all police stations in the region, but none had any record of MP Tinkasimire in their custody.

“Police are not the only agency with authority to carry out arrests in Uganda,” Kituuma clarified, in response to public concern. He further noted that it is not a legal requirement to inform local council leaders before making an arrest.

As of now, no official information has been released about the motive behind the arrest or the identity of the individuals involved.
