State Attorney Found Dead at Home After Days Missing; Police Launch Investigation

By Robert Segawa

The Territorial Police at Kasangati Division are investigating the sudden death of 47-year-old Fatumah Bbuye Nabiwemba, a State Attorney attached to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) headquarters.

The deceased was a resident of Wampewo in Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District. The incident was reported on the evening of July 10 at around 8:00 PM by Hamza Kabanda, a driver from the DPP’s office. Kabanda had gone to check on Nabiwemba after she failed to report to work for four consecutive days.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was last seen at her workplace approximately four days prior to the discovery of her body. She was found unresponsive inside her home, where she lived alone.

A family member, who preferred to remain anonymous, revealed that the late Nabiwemba had been diagnosed with a mental health condition and had received treatment at Butabika National Referral Hospital. The relative also disclosed that Nabiwemba had separated from her husband and her children were away at boarding schools at the time of her death.

A team of detectives from Kasangati, led by the Division Police Commander, visited the scene, conducted a search, and recovered several items of evidential value including food remains and the deceased’s mobile phones, which were found charging and will be subjected to forensic analysis.

The body was transported to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death. Investigations are ongoing.
