Spike in DNA Testing as Men Seek Paternal Confirmation, Ministry Warns of Emotional Impact

By Robert Segawa

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has reported a notable increase in DNA testing over the past week, with 94 cases registered in just three days. This was disclosed by Simon Peter Mundeyi, the ministry spokesperson, during a press briefing at the police headquarters in Naguru.

According to Mundeyi, the majority of these tests, conducted at the government laboratory in Wandegeya, have been requested by men seeking to confirm paternity of their children. Women account for approximately 2% of the cases, often pursuing tests to establish the rightful fathers of their children. Additionally, about 3% of the cases involve children trying to verify their biological parents in order to receive support.

Mundeyi cautioned men against pursuing DNA testing lightly, stating, “If you are a man without a stone heart, please reconsider, as 98% of these tests return negative results, causing trauma to all parties involved.”

Those interested in DNA testing can pay a fee of $100 for results, which include analysis of samples from the father, mother, and child.

The ministry has also expressed concerns about media and cameras targeting government officials and other high-profile individuals for their DNA test results. Mundeyi advised men to be vigilant about children given to them by their wives, as they might unknowingly be caring for children fathered by others outside their marriage.
