The Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) has expressed deep concern over the continued detention of two journalists, Eric Yiga of Salt Media and Ivan Kimbowa of Uganda Radio Network (URN), who are being held at the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala.

In a statement released on Sunday morning, UJA Secretary General Emmanuel Kirunda revealed that the two journalists were arrested on Saturday morning by individuals identifying themselves as members of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU). The arrest reportedly occurred in Mukono, after which the journalists were transferred to CPS.
Their detention is allegedly linked to a story involving the Education Officer of Mukono Municipal Council.

Kirunda condemned the detention, stating, “The ongoing detention of these journalists is a serious concern to us, as it poses an adverse effect on the press freedom landscape in this country.” The UJA is now demanding the immediate and unconditional release of the journalists and has instructed its legal team to explore all possible avenues to secure their freedom
