Over 1,500 Aspiring Candidates Nominated by DF Electoral Commission

By Kabuye Ronald

The Democratic Front (DF) Electoral Commission has so far nominated a total of 1,520 aspiring candidates to contest for various elective positions on the DF ticket at different levels of government.

According to a nomination status report released by the party’s Electoral Commission, chaired by Mr. Henry Lubowa, the nominated candidates include 162 aspiring Members of Parliament and 32 district chairperson hopefuls. The remaining nominees are vying for various councilor positions across the country.

Addressing the media at the party’s headquarters in Namirembe, Kampala, Mr. Lubowa announced that the party leadership has approved an extension of the nomination period for all elective positions. He explained that this decision is aimed at offering a second chance to aspirants who were sidelined during the vetting and primary processes of other political parties.

“The DF Electoral Commission will continue to nominate candidates until the final hour,” Mr. Lubowa emphasized. He encouraged individuals who were rejected or dropped by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the National Unity Platform (NUP) to pick up DF tickets and pursue their political ambitions under the DF banner.

Mr. Samuel Lubega Mukaaku, the DF’s National Chairperson, reiterated the party’s commitment to inclusivity, stating that DF offers a political home and mentorship to aspirants who have been turned away by other parties.

Meanwhile, Mr. Pascal, the DF Vice President in charge of the Eastern region, commended the Electoral Commission for conducting a transparent, corruption-free nomination process since its inception.

The nomination exercise is still ongoing.
