Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Charles Kataratambi has died following complications related to diabetes, police confirmed on Thursday.

Kataratambi passed away at Nakasero Hospital, where he had been admitted for treatment.
A lawyer by profession, Kataratambi joined the Uganda Police Force in 2001 as a cadet officer. Over the years, he rose through the ranks and held several key positions, including head of the Police Flying Squad, the Special Investigations Division (SID), the Media Crimes Unit, and the Land Protection Police Unit.

In 2013, he was transferred back to lead the Special Investigations Division. Two years later, in 2015, he was among officers arrested over allegations of mishandling a fraud case linked to the Kyetume–Katosi road project. He was later cleared of any wrongdoing.
After a period of being undeployed, Kataratambi made a comeback in May 2024 when he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police. He was subsequently appointed to lead the Directorate of Human Rights and Legal Services.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
