UYD reveals why M7 links attacks on police to ADF and Opposition

By Jumah Kakomo

The opposition Democratic Party (DP) youth wing Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) have lashed at President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni over linking the attacks on police stations to Allied Defense Forces (ADF) and opposition.

These attacks happened at Busiika in Luwero district, Kyanja among others which left some guns stolen and loss of lives to some security operatives whom President Museveni linked to Allied Defense Forces (ADF) and opposition in his last Presidential address.

Uganda Young Democrats president Ismail Kiirya says as Democratic Party they strongly disagree with the president’s speech because it’s baseless, and this link is coming few days after internal affairs Minister Gen. Kahinda otafiire ruling out the links to any rebel group and instead he linked them to security personals and mere criminals.

” The president is simply linking the attacks to the opposition to get reasons for arresting us, torture us and forge crimes against us.” Kiirya added.

Kiirya adds that President Museveni thinks that the current opposition is going to behave like him in 1980 but the opposition’s behavior of becoming a rebel is more myth than reality because no other opposition leader can afford to kill fellow Ugandans because of power.

”one time President Museveni told the nation that he went to Congo to kill the ADF, some videos were even shown when striking their bases. Where have they come from to start attacking the police now”, Kiirya said.

Kiirya has also condemned the increasing continuous abductions of Ugandan citizens saying they don’t refuse to arrest any person suspected to be a criminal but they condemn the way these people are arrested that violates human dignity.

Kiirya reveals that when the president had just appointed the IGP Martin Okoth Ochola they all had hopes of restoring the impunity of Uganda Police, but this is the officer who has done more harm than good to Uganda police.

“Our attention has been drawn from how Sheik Yahaya Mwanje was arrested. Why to arrest someone without identifying yourselves” he added.

Kiirya has also disclosed his view over the government’s motive to emerge its agencies saying this idea is good but the government has moved away from plans made by the National planning authority of uniting agencies with the same work, reducing administrative costs among others. It has instead politicized the whole process. Government officials are only targeting agencies with big budgets like Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to Incorporated to the Ministries. UNRA can’t be merged to any ministry; Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) can’t be merged to the ministry of Agriculture.

Look at the reasons why such agencies were created before merging any. This act would have been majorly for Development purposes not personal gains.

Kiirya further condemned medical workers for what he termed as openly endorsing president Museveni at Kololo airstrip. He says Uganda Young Democrats watched closely as some of the medical workers in their clinical courts endorsed President Yoweri Kaguta Musevei to stand for presidency in 2026, but these people have many times complained about the low payment, poor facilities, and little drugs in the hospitals among others.

”Has this been fixed yet” Kiirya asked.
