Police Announces Recruitment of 100,000 Special Constables Ahead of 2026 Elections

By Robert Segawa

The Uganda Police Force has announced that one of the basic requirements for the recruitment of polling constables is possession of a Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) pass slip.

Other key requirements include being a Ugandan citizen, having a valid National ID, a recent passport-sized photograph, and a clean criminal record.

While addressing the press at the Police Headquarters in Naguru, Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke explained that applicants must also present recommendation letters from their LC I, LC III, and the Gombolola Internal Security Office (GISO). In addition, candidates must be physically fit and willing to work long hours within their areas of origin.

The announcement comes as the Uganda Police Force sets out to recruit 100,000 special police constables who will serve as polling constables ahead of the 2026 general elections.

According to Rusoke, the recruits will undergo one month of training and will be contracted for three months, earning a monthly salary of UGX 469,000.

He further cautioned against forgery, warning that any applicant found submitting fake documents will be arrested immediately. Rusoke also advised aspiring recruits to avoid dealing with middlemen, emphasizing that the recruitment process is free and transparent.
