The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has issued a stern warning to the Ministry of Works and Transport over the poor state of marrum roads in the Karamoja sub-region, directing immediate intervention to restore and maintain the affected routes.

Speaking during his campaign rally in Moroto District, President Museveni cited the Moroto–Kotido road, which is often rendered impassable by torrential rains, emphasizing the need for timely maintenance of all marrum roads to prevent further deterioration.

Museveni also highlighted that the planned Kidepo International Airport will significantly transform the region’s infrastructure, boost tourism, and enhance the hospitality industry across the Karamoja sub-region.

The NRM flag bearer urged the people of Moroto to uphold the NRM’s politics of unity, rejecting sectarian divisions based on religion, tribe, or gender. He stated that Uganda’s peace, development, and national institutions have thrived under the NRM’s principle of unity, which must be safeguarded through continued support for the party.

Highlighting government achievements, Museveni pointed to major infrastructure growth and population expansion in Moroto and Karamoja as visible results of NRM policies. He announced plans for more educational and health facilities in the coming term, including:

Construction of three new secondary schools under the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers (UgIFT) and Uganda Secondary Education Expansion Project (USEEP).Upgrading of Acherer HCII to HCIII in Loputuk Sub-county. Construction of new HCIIIs in Nadunget and Lotisan Sub-counties and Upgrading Nadunget HCIII to HCIV and Rupa HCII to HCIII.

On water access, Museveni commended ongoing government projects such as the desilting of Kobebe Earth Dam, the 20-million-litre Nadipal Valley Tank, the 1.5-billion-litre Nakonyen Valley Dam, and several other valley tanks and wind-powered water systems. He ordered local authorities to investigate and address gaps in water distribution within Moroto District.

The President further encouraged residents to focus on wealth creation through government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), noting that Moroto District has so far received UGX 11.5 billion under the PDM for 11,699 households, alongside UGX 2.9 billion in Emyooga funds disbursed to 70 SACCOs.

He urged the electorate to clearly distinguish between wealth creation and development, emphasizing that individual and household economic empowerment is key to lasting progress.

Meanwhile, the First Lady, Maama Janet Kataha Museveni, called on the people of Moroto to turn up in large numbers on voting day to re-elect President Museveni and all NRM flag bearers, ensuring continued stability and prosperity for the region.
