The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has revealed plans to introduce a comprehensive boarding school program for all schools across the Karamoja sub-region.

Speaking during a presidential campaign rally at Lolachat Primary School Playground in Nabilatuk District, General Museveni noted that insecurity challenges in some areas of Karamoja continue to disrupt learning. He said discussions with relevant stakeholders are underway to find lasting solutions that will improve school enrollment and retention in the region, describing Karamoja as a “special case.”

The NRM Presidential candidate also expressed concern over charges in government schools, saying they are contributing to low enrollment and high dropout rates. He urged residents of Nabilatuk to support his plans for free universal education in government institutions.

In his address, General Museveni announced several new tarmac road construction projects to connect Nabilatuk District with Nakapiripirit and Amudat districts. He also unveiled plans for new piped water projects to supplement existing water dams and boreholes established by the government.
Museveni encouraged voters in Nabilatuk to support the NRM in the forthcoming General Elections, citing the party’s “clarity on leadership strategies and understanding of society dynamics.” He emphasized that the NRM’s wealth creation strategy, including the Parish Development Model (PDM), has successfully improved household incomes in many parts of Uganda.

Highlighting examples of individuals who have benefited from the PDM, Museveni urged locals to embrace the four-acre model and other wealth creation initiatives as sustainable job creation strategies.
The President also revealed plans to meet with elders from Nabilatuk and Nakapiripirit districts to resolve ongoing tensions between locals and the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) over grazing rights in the Pian-Upe Conservation Area.

Additionally, Museveni pointed to emerging job opportunities in the region driven by ongoing industrialization and the growth of the tourism sector.
Meanwhile, the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, reaffirmed government plans to promote self-sustainability and improve housing across the Karamoja sub-region.
