Museveni Urges Kumi Residents to Assess Opposition Credentials, Highlights NRM’s Record on Peace and Dev’t

By Jumah Kakomo and Kabuye Ronald

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has urged voters in Kumi District to critically assess the credentials of opposition presidential candidates, including Robert Kyagulanyi, Nandala Mafabi, Mugisha Muntu, and Robert Kasibante, among others.

Addressing supporters during his campaign rally in Kumi District, President Museveni emphasized that the NRM government has consistently delivered on its promises of peace and security for the people of Kumi, the greater Teso sub-region, and Uganda as a whole—an achievement he believes opposition candidates cannot match.

General Museveni outlined how the NRM government has strategically tackled unemployment through initiatives in industrialization, the service sector, ICT, and commercial agriculture. He underscored that these sectors have provided opportunities for sustainable livelihoods and strengthened Uganda’s economic foundation.

While speaking about the importance of leadership and integrity, Museveni recounted how FDC presidential candidate Nandala Mafabi nearly led to the collapse of the Bugisu Cooperative Union, an institution Museveni claims he had to intervene to rescue.

The NRM flag bearer also presented his strategies for enhancing wealth creation and broadening Uganda’s tax base, explaining that empowering households to create wealth directly contributes to national development. He encouraged the people of Kumi to distinguish between wealth creation and development, noting that true transformation begins at the household level.

Furthermore, Museveni outlined plans to expand socioeconomic empowerment programs to cover a wider range of beneficiaries, pledging continued government support for initiatives that uplift communities.

The NRM presidential candidate commended the people of Kumi District and the entire Teso sub-region for their contributions to restoring peace in the area. He vowed to safeguard this peace as a foundation for lasting prosperity and inclusive development.

In his concluding remarks, Museveni reaffirmed his commitment to improving essential services, including expanding access to clean water, upgrading tarmac roads, and strengthening the health and education sectors across the region.
