The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has commended the people of Namisindwa District for putting an end to smuggling activities, noting that the vice was detrimental to Uganda’s national economy.

Speaking during the NRM Presidential campaign rally at Namisindwa Technical College, General Museveni praised the district’s efforts to curb smuggling from Kenya, saying it has helped strengthen Uganda’s economy. He emphasized that the elimination of illegal trade has enabled the country to build a robust industrial base, leading to increased production and surplus goods for export.

Highlighting the district’s transformation under the NRM government, Museveni outlined his plans to continue steering development in Namisindwa through key infrastructural and social programs.

The NRM candidate confirmed government plans to jointly implement the tarmacking of the Kufu–Mabale Road through Namisindwa District and the Bubulo–Bududa Circular Road in Bududa District. He assured residents that these strategic infrastructure projects will enhance trade and economic growth in the region.

General Museveni also issued a stern warning to district engineers involved in substandard road works, emphasizing the government’s zero-tolerance policy for corruption and shoddy construction.

Additionally, Museveni announced several mass water distribution projects for Namisindwa District and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to improving education and health infrastructure in every parish and sub-county.

The NRM candidate further elaborated on his wealth creation agenda, highlighting key programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, the Youth Livelihood Program, and Women Empowerment Schemes. He urged residents to embrace commercial agriculture, manufacturing, services, and ICT as viable pathways to economic transformation.

Citing examples of successful wealth creators, Museveni encouraged Namisindwa residents to focus on wealth creation as the foundation for sustainable job creation, stressing that a productive economy naturally generates employment opportunities.

He also rallied the people of Namisindwa to support his stance on free universal education in all government schools. Museveni condemned the illegal charges imposed by some school administrators, noting that such practices undermine government efforts to promote equitable access to education.

The President highlighted the success of Presidential Skilling Hubs as a testament to the viability of free education and vocational training in equipping youth with practical skills for self-employment and national development.
