Tragedy at Kabowa Oxygen and Steel Plant: Gas Cylinder Explosion Claims Two Lives

Shock and grief have gripped workers at the Oxygen and Steel Plant in Kabowa Parish following a tragic gas cylinder explosion that killed two individuals on the spot.

The incident, which is being investigated as a case of suspected negligence, occurred around noon in Sembule A, Rubaga Division, a suburb of Kampala.

The deceased have been identified as Andrajt Baraya, an Indian national, and Amos, a Ugandan national. Preliminary reports suggest that both men were operating the oxygen plant during their day shift when the explosion occurred, resulting in their immediate deaths.

Luke Owoyesigyire, deputy spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the details of the incident, stating that police, alongside experts, are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the explosion.

“We will provide further updates as the investigation progresses,” he assured.

Owoyesigyire emphasized the commitment to a thorough investigation to uncover the facts behind this unfortunate event, aiming to ensure the safety of all workers and prevent similar incidents in the future. The community remains in shock as they mourn the loss of their colleagues in this devastating accident.
