Museveni Launches Campaign in Sebei in Bukwo District, Pledges Europe Benchmark Trip to Curb Landslides

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has launched his campaign trail in the Sebei Sub-region, pledging new initiatives to address environmental and infrastructural challenges in the area.

During a rally held at Amanang Secondary School playgrounds in Bukwo District, Museveni promised to sponsor a group of residents from Bukwo on a benchmarking trip to Europe to learn how communities around the Alps Mountains manage and utilize mountainous terrain sustainably. This, he said, would help combat the rampant landslides in the Sebei Sub-region that recently claimed 20 lives.

Museveni noted that the soils on the slopes of Mountain Elgon are unsuitable for agriculture and settlement, urging residents to adopt better land utilization practices to avert future disasters. He emphasized that mountains like Elgon and Rwenzori are valuable tourism resources that must be properly managed to benefit the nation.

The NRM candidate also pledged to upgrade Bukwo Health Centre IV into a General Hospital and to construct and upgrade more health facilities across the district. He further promised to extend piped water coverage, expand tarmac roads, and improve telephone and electricity distribution to boost local development.

In education, Museveni committed to rationalizing schools in line with the Ministry of Education policy—ensuring one primary school per parish and one secondary school per sub-county.

He urged the people of Bukwo to focus on wealth creation at the household level, stressing that government development programs would be accelerated in his next term. Museveni also challenged the electorate to monitor the use of district funds, noting that the local council system was established to promote accountability and transparency in government resource management.

Museveni called on residents to resist corruption and to ensure that public resources are used effectively for the benefit of the community.
