Museveni Launches Ankole Campaigns, Urges Isingiro Farmers to Embrace Modern Agriculture and Irrigation

By Jumah Kakomo and Kabuye Ronald

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, has opened his Ankole Sub-region campaign trail with a major rally in Isingiro District, where he urged banana farmers to adopt modern farming practices and irrigation to boost productivity.

Addressing supporters at the Isingiro District Headquarters playgrounds, Museveni noted that Isingiro—one of Uganda’s leading banana-producing districts—stands to gain significantly from improved irrigation and better land-use management. He encouraged farmers to benchmark successful initiatives such as the Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development in Bushenyi, promising government support for similar projects in his next term.

Museveni emphasized the importance of protecting vital water bodies, warning against continued encroachment on wetlands and rivers such as Rwizi and Kagera. He reminded residents that sustainable agriculture depends on preserving the environment and maintaining natural water systems.

On infrastructure development, Museveni pledged to tarmac additional strategic roads in the district, including the Kitagate–Kitwe–Miramar Hills road and the Kabingo–Rwekubo–Rugaga–Rwangabo–Endinzi–Rakai–Mutukula road. He highlighted ongoing major road projects as evidence of the NRM government’s commitment to socioeconomic transformation.

The NRM presidential candidate also rallied residents to continue supporting the party, reminding them of the peace, stability, and security restored under NRM leadership. He encouraged households to take advantage of existing government programs for wealth creation, stressing the importance of economically sound investments.

Museveni re-echoed the benefits of the four-acre model and outlined profitable enterprises suitable for both small and large landowners. He also pointed to emerging job opportunities in commercial agriculture, manufacturing, services, and ICT—sectors he said have expanded due to NRM-led industrialization.

NRM 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female), Anita Among, called on party structures in Isingiro to safeguard the party’s victory and strengthen mobilization efforts. Meanwhile, District NRM Chairperson Moses Mushabe presented a status report on development and the district’s priorities.
