17 Suspects Arrested, Three AK-47 Rifles Recovered in Iganga Security Crackdown

By Robert Segawa
The territorial police in Iganga District are holding 17 suspects following a successful joint intelligence-led operation targeting hard-core criminal gangs, during which three AK-47 rifles were recovered. According to police, the weapons are linked to a series of violent robberies across Iganga, Jinja City, Walukuba, and the wider Sezibwa region.

The operation was boosted by a key arrest made on 27th September 2025, when army security operatives based in Lugazi apprehended Gumikiriza Allan after a botched robbery in Walukuba, Jinja City. During the incident, one suspect was shot dead, and an SMG rifle loaded with two rounds of ammunition was recovered at the scene.

During interrogation, Gumikiriza reportedly confessed to participating in several aggravated robberies in Iganga, including the theft of UGX 9,500,000 from Ndagire Justine. He also revealed the identities of his accomplices, admitting that he conducted reconnaissance for the same robbery alongside Magumba Saidi, a 25-year-old resident of Nkono 3 Village in Iganga Municipality.

According to police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, a follow-up operation conducted on 20th November 2025—guided by Gumikiriza—led to the arrest of: Magumba Saidi, 25, resident of Nkono 3 Village, Kakaire Abdullah alias Brown, 36, resident of Igulusa Village, Bukaye Parish, Nakalama Subcounty and Mulondo Samuel alias Shadow, 25, businessman, resident of Nkono 3 Village

Rusoke said the suspects confessed to taking part in multiple aggravated robberies within Iganga District.

During questioning, the suspects further revealed that the firearms used in the attacks were supplied and stored by a man known as Muzei, a resident of Bugembe Division in Jinja City. Investigators believe that the firearm recovered in Walukuba is the same weapon used in several robberies in Iganga. Muzei reportedly abandoned the gun at the crime scene before fleeing and remains at large.

Police say further investigations are underway to track down the remaining suspects and dismantle the wider criminal network.
