Museveni Calls for East African Federation as Key to Regional Security and Economic Prosperity

By Jumah Kakomo and Kabuye Ronald

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reiterated that the East African Federation should be the ultimate goal for member states, enabling the region to achieve both economic and strategic security objectives.

Speaking during a media interaction with journalists from the Ankole Sub-region at his Rwakitura residence in Kiruhura District, President Museveni emphasized the transformative power of regional unity. He explained how deeper integration would strengthen the four dimensions of security—personal, national, economic, and strategic—while also consolidating the regional market for greater economic growth.

President Museveni also highlighted the NRM government’s contributions to Uganda’s development and socioeconomic transformation. He pointed to achievements in peace and security, economic and social development, wealth creation, job creation, and ongoing efforts toward regional integration.

Addressing concerns in the tea sector, the President assured tea growers in the Ankole Sub-region of the government’s intervention to resolve persistent challenges. He announced an additional shs360 billion support fund and improved market access aimed at revitalizing the sector. Museveni further pledged to tighten quality control measures to enhance the competitiveness of Ugandan tea on the global market.

During the same engagement, President Museveni also offered guidance to NRM primary election losers who chose to contest as independents, urging them to remain aligned with the party’s values and broader national goals.
