Museveni Touts Peace, Development, and Wealth Creation at Kyankwazi NRM Rally

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has said Uganda is enjoying unprecedented and sustained peace since independence under the NRM government, a foundation he says has enabled unmatched development and socioeconomic transformation.

Speaking during an NRM presidential campaign rally at Butemba College Playground in Kyankwazi District, Museveni noted that the party’s non-sectarian politics has fostered national unity, strengthened institutions, and accelerated development across the country. He urged voters to safeguard these gains by re-electing the NRM government in the forthcoming general elections.

Museveni highlighted the impact of affirmative action policies for special interest groups, particularly women, saying the NRM has empowered women to rise into key leadership positions and actively contribute to national development.

On agriculture, the NRM flag bearer announced plans to establish irrigation schemes in Kyankwazi District to mechanize farming and improve productivity. He cited successful government-supported irrigation projects in districts such as Bushenyi, where farmers have registered higher yields and incomes, and said similar initiatives would be replicated in Kyankwazi.

Museveni further noted that Kyankwazi District has attained 86 percent coverage of safe and clean water, pledging to scale it up to 100 percent. He also committed to increasing tarmac road coverage in the district, announcing new road projects and confirming the resumption of construction works on the Kiboga and Mubende highways.

In the energy sector, Museveni promised to extend electricity to the remaining three of the district’s 21 sub-counties during his next term. He also outlined plans to upgrade existing health centres and construct new ones to improve access to healthcare services.

The President emphasized that the NRM government is uniquely funding wealth creation initiatives directly at the household level. He urged residents to actively participate in government programs aimed at lifting households out of subsistence livelihoods. He cited success stories from various districts and reiterated his goal of seeing every homestead attain sustainable wealth.

Museveni reaffirmed the NRM’s commitment to wealth creation through programs such as Entandikwa, Operation Wealth Creation, NAADS, Emyooga, the Parish Development Model, the Youth Livelihood Programme, and the Women Empowerment Fund. He also guided residents on enterprise selection, the four-acre model, fish farming, and opportunities in commercial agriculture.

On industrialization, Museveni said government efforts have so far created 1.3 million jobs, with more planned as industrial growth expands nationwide, including in Kyankwazi District. He called on young people to embrace skills development and vocational training, citing success stories from the Presidential Zonal Industrial Skilling Hubs.

NRM First National Vice Chairperson Alhaji Moses Kigongo urged party members in Kyankwazi to ensure a decisive victory for all NRM flag bearers. Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) Anita Among called for compensation of absentee landlords to resolve land conflicts and address disputes between the National Forestry Authority and local communities. She also commended party members who lost in primaries for supporting NRM flag bearers.

NRM Vice Chairperson for the Central Region Haruna Kasoro outlined plans to strengthen door-to-door campaigns through village-based teams and praised the district’s mobilization efforts. He also encouraged youths to take ownership of the campaign to ensure victory.

The rally concluded with Kyankwazi District NRM Chairperson Rosemary Bekembe presenting the district memorandum to the party leadership.
