Mpuuga Urges Busoga Voters to Choose Quality Leadership Over Job Seekers

By Mukembo Wilfred

The President of the Democratic Front (DF), Rt. Hon. Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, has urged voters in the Busoga sub-region to elect leaders of integrity and competence who can effectively articulate the people’s concerns and advocate for a fair share of the national resources.

Mpuuga, accompanied by the Entebbe Municipality Member of Parliament and Democratic Front Chief Whip, Hon. Michael Kakembo Mbwatekamwa, spent the end of 2025 touring selected districts in Busoga to mobilize support for DF candidates at both parliamentary and local government levels.

During the engagements, community leaders and aspiring candidates raised several challenges affecting the region, including widespread poverty, poor road infrastructure, inadequate healthcare services, a struggling education system, and a deteriorating service sector.

Dr. Ashraf Mugalula, the Democratic Front aspirant for the Bunya West Parliamentary seat in Mayuge District, noted that despite these persistent challenges, many leaders previously elected by the people of Busoga have failed to advocate for lasting solutions.

He observed that some Members of Parliament representing the region rarely return to consult their constituents, while others remain silent on critical Busoga issues on the floor of Parliament.

Eng. Stanley Mukisa, the DF parliamentary candidate for Kiggulu North in Iganga District, urged voters to be more discerning in their choices, emphasizing that poor leadership and weak representation are major contributors to the region’s stagnation.

Addressing residents, Mpuuga expressed concern over what he described as a decline in Busoga’s tradition of electing capable and principled leaders. He recalled that the region was once known for producing strong, qualified representatives who effectively championed the people’s interests.

He warned that recent electoral trends show voters being driven by excitement and short-term inducements, resulting in the election of leaders ill-equipped to tackle the region’s deep-rooted challenges.

Mpuuga called on the people of Busoga to remain vigilant and avoid being swayed by political theatrics, stressing that only competent and committed leadership can restore the region’s voice at the national level.

Meanwhile, Hon. Michael Kakembo Mbwatekamwa informed voters that the Democratic Front subjected all its flag bearers to a rigorous vetting process to ensure credibility and competence. He urged the electorate to support and entrust these candidates with leadership.
