Speaker Among Joins Bukedea MPs in Renewed Push for Unity and Development

By Jamillah Oluka.

Leaders from Bukedea District have pledged to work together in a renewed spirit of unity aimed at accelerating development and improving service delivery across the district as the new political term begins.

The commitment was made during a luncheon held at Hotel Africana following the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected leaders. The event attracted political leaders, supporters, and residents from different parts of Bukedea who gathered to celebrate what many described as a new chapter of cooperation among leaders.

Speaking during the gathering, the Speaker of Parliament thanked the people of Bukedea and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the trust they had placed in her leadership. She noted that she had always looked forward to working together with fellow Members of Parliament from Bukedea in order to transform the district and improve the livelihoods of the people.

The Speaker emphasized that unity among leaders is critical in ensuring effective service delivery and faster development.

“When leaders work together, it becomes easier to address the needs of the people and ensure development reaches every community,” she said.

She also praised the performance of the 11th Parliament and expressed confidence that the cooperation currently being witnessed among Bukedea leaders would continue into the new parliamentary term.

Bukedea Members of Parliament Hon. Beecham David Okwere and Hon. Opolot Shagi also pledged to work together for the benefit of the district. Hon. Opolot Shagi urged leaders at all levels to focus on service delivery instead of engaging in unnecessary political disagreements.

“This time, leaders must focus on improving the lives of the people and not politics,” he noted.

Hon. Okwere described Bukedea leaders as united and determined to move in one direction toward development.

NRM Chairperson for Bukedea District Epilo Isaac attributed the growing unity to inclusive leadership and a shared commitment among leaders to serve the people.

The Speaker’s Personal Assistant, Akol Ziporah, highlighted ongoing development initiatives including sanitation campaigns, support for women and youth groups, the purchase of an ambulance, and distribution of Anita Okwere liquid soap.

Steven Akabwai, the youth mobilizer from Bukedea, welcomed the unity among leaders, saying the district was now focusing on skilling young people to help them create jobs and improve their livelihoods.

“Youth unemployment has been a major challenge, but with united leadership, many young people will benefit from skilling programs,” he said.

Residents also praised the cooperation among leaders. Rukia Apolot said Bukedea was fortunate to have leaders who understand each other and work together for the common good.

“With leaders speaking the same language, I believe Bukedea will continue to develop,” she noted.
