Three members of the same family have died in a suspected domestic murder-suicide in Namusisi Village, Nawandala Sub-county, Iganga District, police have said.
The incident occurred on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at around 8:45 a.m., prompting a homicide investigation by the Territorial Police in Iganga District.
The deceased have been identified as Nabirye Salama, 26, her two-year-old son Kisira Mutwalib, and the suspected attacker, Waako Jamiru Makoma, who also died after allegedly stabbing himself.
According to the Busoga East Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Michael Kasadha, preliminary investigations indicate that the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute over family property.
Police allege that during the altercation, Waako Jamiru Makoma fatally stabbed his wife and their two-year-old son before turning the knife on himself inside their home in Namusisi Village.
Investigators say preliminary findings suggest that the dispute arose after Nabirye Salama reportedly purchased a piece of land and registered it in the name of their son without the knowledge of Waako Jamiru Makoma. Police say the suspect demanded to see the land sale agreement, leading to an argument that allegedly escalated into violence. Authorities further allege that the couple had locked themselves inside the house during the incident.
A team of detectives led by the District Police Commander (DPC) visited the scene, documented evidence, and recovered a blood-stained knife believed to have been used in the attack.
ASP Michael Kasadha said the three bodies were conveyed to Iganga Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examinations as investigations continue.
Police have urged members of the public to resolve domestic and family disputes peacefully through elders, local leaders, and the courts of law, warning that unresolved conflicts can have devastating consequences.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
