Crime Intelligence, together with police in Njeru Division, has arrested three suspects in connection with the kidnap of two children from their home in Buikwe District.

The incident occurred on September 7, 2026, in Bujowali Zone, Njeru Town Council, at the home of prominent businessman Mr Mugabanya.
According to police, two armed assailants wearing masks reportedly stormed the businessman’s home in the evening while he was away. The children were watching television under the care of domestic workers at the time.

Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said the assailants allegedly injured the domestic workers when they raised an alarm before confining them in a bedroom and fleeing with the two children.

Kituuma said the kidnappers later allegedly demanded a ransom of Shs100 million from the father of the two children.
He identified two of the suspects arrested during the operation as Odongo Richard and Derrick Nkuruzizza. Police also recovered a firearm suspected to have been used in the commission of the crime.

The joint security team also arrested Kasaija Dan, who police allege was the overall commander of the group and was responsible for receiving and withdrawing the ransom money in Kampala.
Police said the three suspects will be produced before court once investigations are complete.
