Kitante Hill School Appreciates UNEB for Supporting Special Needs Candidate

By Elijah Khisa

The administration of Kitante Hill School has commended the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) for providing assistive support to the school’s only candidate with special needs ahead of the 2026 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations.

The school’s headteacher, Samuel Balwana Wotakyala, said the provision of specialised assistance was timely and demonstrated UNEB’s commitment to the welfare of all learners, including those with physical disabilities and other vulnerabilities.

Balwana particularly thanked UNEB for deploying Adongo Betty, a physical support specialist serving as an amanuensis, to assist Asianzu Henry Duncan, the school’s only special needs candidate, whose medical condition, monoplegia, affects one hand.

He described UNEB’s decision to provide specialised personnel as a positive sign that the examinations body was sensitive to the needs of learners with disabilities.

Balwana made the remarks on Monday, October 12, 2026, while addressing the media during the examination check-in ceremony at the school.

He said the school had registered 243 candidates for the 2026 UCE examinations and reported that all candidates had turned up for the examinations, although two girls had not been seen at school since the beginning of the third term and could not be traced.

The headteacher said the school had experienced a few logistical challenges, including an early-morning downpour that disrupted the examination collection programme and a sudden traffic jam.

However, he said the school managed to begin the examinations at exactly 9:00 a.m., the officially designated starting time.

Balwana, who was accompanied by the deputy headteacher in charge of academics, Danson Nagaba Bank, also thanked parents for supporting the school’s programmes and activities in preparation for the examinations.

He said timely payment of school fees and other dues had enabled the administration to carry out its responsibilities more effectively.

He further appreciated the government for working with schools by providing the necessary logistical support and guidance to facilitate the smooth administration of national examinations.

Balwana said teachers had done their best to prepare candidates academically and provide them with an all-round education, expressing optimism that the efforts would translate into good performance in the examinations.
