Kaswida musician Swahaba Kasumba remanded to Luzira prison

Mengo grade one Magistrate Zako Dorcus has remanded to Luzira civil prison renowned nasheed (Kaswida) Islamic musician Swahaba Kasumba alias Rashid Kasumba over defaulting on loan.

Swahabah Kasumba who is also the president of Nasheed Islamic Music and a business man dealing in bridal garments in Kampala is accused of failing to meet the obligation of servicing his loan amounting to 16.8 million Uganda shillings that he acquired in 2022 from Nyenvutovu investment limited, a money lending company.

According to the company’s lawyer Mayanja Daniel from Damba and company advocates, Swahaba Kasumba has been in hiding since May 2023 when court instructed him to pay his creditors the outstanding balance of 14 million and the costs of the case he lost of 2,820,000 which brings to a total of UGX 16,820,000 that he must pay before his release.

Lawyer Mayanja Daniel said that Swahaba Kasumba was arrested on Thursday evening by the court beliefs from Maganjo, Nabweru Sub County, Wakiso district, detained at Bwaise Police post and subsequently arraigned before Mengo grade one Magistrates court on Friday morning which remanded him to Luzira prison untill Monday 30th, October 2023.

Speaking before being arraigned in Court Swahaba Kasumba confessed knowledge of the loan but asked for more time to pay.

He however, decried the manner in which he was arrested equating it to that used by security forces while arresting hardcore criminals.
