BUSOGA EAST: Police in Busoga East have deployed Quick Response Teams equipped with motorcycles and motor vehicles to strengthen security and combat a growing number of robberies targeting traders and merchandise distributors across the region.

The deployment follows reports of robberies involving businesspeople transporting merchandise and large sums of money along major highways and other routes within the region.

The Regional Police Commander has directed the immediate deployment of the teams to identified robbery hotspots and key transport routes to enhance rapid response to security incidents.

The operation covers major routes, including the Iganga–Jinja Highway, Iganga–Bugweri, Iganga–Kaliro, Iganga–Namutumba, Musita–Namayingo, as well as roads within major towns.

Police have urged members of the business community, particularly traders and distributors who transport valuable merchandise or large amounts of cash, to identify officers deployed along these routes and obtain their direct telephone contacts for emergency assistance.

Businesspeople have also been encouraged to promptly report suspicious individuals or vehicles that may be following them.

Police further advised traders to avoid transporting large sums of money late at night without security assistance, adding that police escorts can be requested at any police station.

The force has assured the public that information provided by members of the community will be handled with utmost confidentiality.

The deployment is intended to strengthen police visibility, improve emergency response and enhance cooperation between security agencies and the public in preventing criminal activities.

Police have called upon residents and the business community to work closely with security personnel, expressing confidence that cooperation between the public and law enforcement will help combat robberies in Busoga East.
