Journalist Arnold Mukose of Digitalk Media has been remanded to Luzira Prison until Friday, October 16, 2026, following his appearance before the Law Development Centre (LDC) Court over previous charges.

Mukose was produced before the court on Wednesday after his rearrest at Old Kampala Police Station, where he had gone to retrieve his work equipment, including a laptop and mobile phones that had been impounded during his initial arrest.
According to updates and a press release issued by the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) through its website and social media platforms, Mukose was arrested and detained on Tuesday, October 13, after returning to the police station to collect his belongings.

The journalist had previously faced charges relating to the alleged publication of false and distressing news about the First Lady, Janet Kataaha Museveni. The charges were subsequently dropped, according to the association. However, he has been slapped with the same charges
In its Earlier statement, the association expressed concern over what it described as harassment of the journalist and called on the authorities to release him unconditionally to enable him to exercise his constitutional right to press freedom.

UJA also announced that it had instructed its legal team to handle the matter and work towards securing Mukose’s release.
The development has renewed calls from the journalists’ body for respect for press freedom and the protection of journalists in the course of their professional duties.
“Journalism is not a crime,” the association said in its campaign for Mukose’s release.
