NUP’s Alan Kateregga Mutebi narrates his ordeal in the hands of security

By Mukembo Wilfred

The 45 year old National Unity Platform NUP Mobiliser Alan Kateregga Mutebi, a resident of Naluvule Kabulengwa has narrated the ordeal he went through in the hands of security operatives over supporting NUP.

Kateregga who lives with his son Austin Kateregga after separating with the mother to his son whose parents and her were strong supporters of the ruling National Resistance Movement NRM, says on July 25th 2022 while sensitizing the youth in his area about human rights through dance and drama at Naluvule Kabulengwa approached by 2 plain clothed security operatives who brutally arrested him for purportedly holding unlawful assembly.

He suspects his arrest was masterminded by his neighbor, the National Resistance Movement NRM spokesperson Rogers Mulindwa who was at the scene during his arrest, purportedly giving orders. Kateregga was thrown into a waiting van with tinted windows which had no seats inside with two more men inside who kept hitting him with electric cables wires while questioning him on why he joined NUP.

“I was driven away and detained at Naluvule police station where I was tortured using electric wire cables on the orders of Rogers Mulindwa. The police would hit me with cables all over my body and this was done after removing all my cloths. They would beat and kick me with their army boots while questioning why I support N.U.P. They added that I should stop supporting Bobi wine if I wanted my life.

They refused to give me anything to eat or drink until I became unconscious. I was electrocuted, they hit me so badly that I passed out.

I gained my consciousness on 27th.07.2022, I was given police bond however, I was too weak and I had pain all over my body. I was rescued by friend Kasalirwe Steven Julius who had come to report a case of phone theft since his mobile phone had been stolen and saw me all bruised up” said Kateregga

Kateregga was rushed to Kawaala Health Centre where he was admitted for treatment since he was so dehydrated, his body bruised with so much bodily pains and severe headache that he is still suffering from which came about after being hit with the gun butt stock.

“I requested my friend to call my mother and alert her that I was released from jail. On

28th July .2022 I requested my friend to take me to his home in kakiri since I was worried for my life. When I resumed with work, unknown numbers kept on trailing me which has made me so paranoid until today.

When we called Rogers Mulindwa about the allegations, he refuted them saying that he has never been part of any abduction though he never denied knowledge of Kateregga saying that he is his neighbor

Patrick Onyango, the spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police said that Kateregga was arrested for inciting violence and holding illegal assembly but was not tortured.
