The Flying Squad Unit of the Police has arrested a private security guard accused of stealing a bag containing UGX 29 million in cash and 900 grams of gold valued at approximately UGX 500 million.
The suspect, identified as Akena Justine, was attached to Magnum Security Company. He allegedly committed the theft last Saturday when he opened his employer’s vehicle and made off with the bag containing the cash and gold.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, Akena was tracked down and arrested at his hideout in Gaspa Village, Bweyale Town Council, in Kiryandongo District.
Police reports indicate that at the time of the incident, Akena had been deployed to guard the premises of Goldex Uganda Limited, located along Mawanda Road. It is alleged that he stole the bag from a motor vehicle belonging to Maggie Katuramu before locking up the premises and going into hiding.

Owoyesigyire further revealed that upon interrogation, Akena admitted to committing the offence. Preliminary findings show that he used part of the stolen money to open a retail shop, where he was eventually apprehended.
Akena is currently being held at Mawanda Road Police Station as investigations continue and preparations for prosecution get underway.
