FDC and DA Hold Groundbreaking Meeting on Constitutional Amendments and Power Transition

By Jumah Kakomo
In a significant move towards potential political collaboration, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) hosted a meeting with the Democratic Alliance (DA) pressure group at their Najjankumbi headquarters in Kampala on Tuesday.

The discussions, led by FDC President Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat and DA National Coordinator Rt. Hon. Mathias Nsamba Mpuuga, centred around proposed constitutional amendments and the transition of power in Uganda.

The high-level meeting also saw the attendance of key FDC leaders, including National Chairman Hon. Jack Sabiiti, Deputy President Ms. Wokuri Magret Madanda, and Vice Chairman Mr. Wante Jamal. The Democratic Alliance, spearheaded by Mpuuga, initiated the meeting to present their proposals on constitutional reforms, which were discussed in depth by the FDC leadership.

According to FDC President Amuriat, the proposed changes will now be reviewed by the party’s relevant organs before any decisions are made. He emphasized that the FDC remains open to collaboration with like-minded organizations committed to building a better Uganda.

“The FDC maintains an open-door policy for all those who share our vision of a transformed Uganda, where citizens live with dignity and have equal opportunities,” said Amuriat.

The FDC leader also reiterated the party’s core mission of promoting democracy, good governance, and constitutionalism, while striving to combat poverty, corruption, and human rights abuses.

On his part, Mpuuga emphasized the importance of a united opposition front to push for meaningful reforms.

He expressed confidence in his ability to rally support across various political parties and stakeholders, including the Justice Forum (JEEMA) and other opposition groups, in pursuit of constitutional amendments aimed at fostering political change.
