By Kisawo Fred

Student leaders from various universities are spearheading a campaign to stop violence in the country especially at this critical time when the country is gearing up for the 2021 general elections.

Through their campaign dubbed “Violence Hapana”, the students intend to spread the gospel of peace throughout the country.

According to Wilson Musinguzi, the spokesperson for the campaign, so far 500 youths have joined the initiative which started early this year at a slow pace from various political parties, namely; Democratic Party (DP), National Resistance Movement (NRM), Forum For Democratic Change (FDC) and National Unity Platform (NUP) among others..

He says, following the violent events that occurred last week after the arrest of National Unity Platform presidential flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu leading to death of over 40 people and leaving many severely injured, they decided to re-embark on spreading the peace message across the country to avoid a recurrence of similar events.

Musinguzi adds that their message is mainly targeting youths, politicians, ordinary citizens and security officials.
