The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has highlighted the success of the disarmament process in Karamoja, emphasizing its role in restoring peace and security across the region.

Speaking as he launched his campaign trail in Abim District, Karamoja Sub-region, President Museveni noted that the recovery of over 41,000 guns from the Karamojong communities has led to a significant reduction in crime and fostered lasting peace — a crucial foundation for growth and development.
General Museveni reflected on the remarkable transformation of the Karamoja Sub-region under the NRM government, citing progress in population growth, health services, education, and road infrastructure. He revealed that the population of Karamoja has increased tenfold to 1.5 million people, a testament to improved living conditions and security.

During his address, the NRM flag bearer directed the revamping of Abim General Hospital and pledged to upgrade several health centers across the district to meet the needs of the growing population.
He also listed major road projects underway in Abim and the greater Karamoja region, including the 123km Soroti–Abim Road and the Moroto–Abim Road, among others. These, he said, are part of the NRM government’s broader agenda to enhance connectivity, trade, and service delivery.

President Museveni reaffirmed that the NRM government has fulfilled its 2016 commitments to prioritize the construction of key security roads, expand electricity access, and implement large-scale development infrastructure projects.
He concluded by urging the people of Abim to evaluate the NRM government based on its tangible achievements as they head to the polls, assuring them of continued peace and prosperity under his leadership.
