Museveni Tasks Rubanda Leaders to Secure 150 Acres for New Industrial Park

By Jumah Kakomo and Kabuye Ronald

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has directed leaders in Rubanda District to secure at least 150 acres of land for the establishment of an industrial park aimed at boosting wealth and job creation.

Gen. Museveni noted that Uganda’s industrialization efforts are steadily transforming the economy, citing progress in Namanve, Mbale, Tororo, and other industrial parks across the country. He said he intends to replicate similar development in the Kigezi Sub-region, starting with Rubanda District.
He made the remarks while addressing supporters during the NRM presidential campaign rally in Rubanda.

The NRM presidential candidate urged the people of Rubanda to take advantage of emerging opportunities in commercial agriculture, manufacturing, and the services sector, noting that government will continue scaling up initiatives to support job creation.

Gen. Museveni also confirmed plans to elevate Muko Health Centre IV to a General Hospital in his next term of office, adding that several other health centres in the district are earmarked for upgrade. According to him, the UPDF Engineering Brigade has already commenced construction works to upgrade Muko Health Centre IV.

During the rally, Gen. Museveni questioned the Rubanda District Chief Administrative Officer over the uneven distribution of government schools, emphasizing the need for adherence to national education policy.

He further guided residents on aligning themselves with the NRM wealth-creation strategy, drawing from the party’s 1996 manifesto which outlines economic transformation models for both large- and small-scale landowners. Museveni cited several successful wealth-creation examples, encouraging locals to emulate them.

Reaffirming his commitment to infrastructure development, Gen. Museveni listed several road projects slated for construction in and through Rubanda District. These include: 72km Kisoro–Nkuringo–Muko Road, 140km Katuna–Muko–Kamuganguzi Road, co-funded by the Government of Uganda and the African Development Bank, Kerere–Kanungu–Ikindya Road and Kabale–Bunyonyi–Kisoro–Bugahinga Road, among others.

He highlighted additional achievements made by the NRM government in the district, including expanded electricity access and progress in water distribution.

The Rubanda District NRM Chairperson and Minister of State for General Duties in the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Henry Musasizi, presented the district’s status report during the event.
