Museveni Outlines Major Support Plan for Tea Farmers, Infrastructure, and Wealth Creation in Bunyangabu

By Jumah Kakomo and Kabuye Ronald
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has unveiled detailed plans to support tea farmers in Bunyangabu District, emphasizing proper land utilization and commercial agriculture.

Museveni noted that tea farmers can greatly increase their earnings by leveraging economies of scale, especially larger-scale farmers who will receive government support. He tasked the renowned tea growers of Bunyangabu to reassess their earnings per acre and use the findings to guide small-scale farmers on profitability as government prepares to inject 360 billion shillings into the tea sector.

Speaking during the NRM presidential campaign rally at Kibiito Secondary School Playgrounds in Bunyangabu District, Rwenzori Sub-region, Museveni attributed delays in key infrastructure projects to poor prioritization by legislators responsible for allocating funds. He stressed that misallocation of resources to non-priority sectors—at the expense of roads, electricity, railways, and other critical economic enablers—has negative macro-economic effects. He urged Members of Parliament to follow the priority framework outlined in the NRM manifesto.

Museveni confirmed the upcoming reconstruction of several tarmac roads within and around Bunyangabu District, listing them before supporters at the rally. He added that Uganda’s poverty-eradication efforts are yielding tangible results and encouraged residents to take up the viable economic enterprises proposed in the NRM manifesto.

He further guided the people of Bunyangabu on proper implementation of the 4-Acre Model, a transformative wealth-creation strategy championed by the NRM. Museveni also highlighted the job opportunities created under NRM leadership—particularly in commercial agriculture, manufacturing, services, ICT, and skills development—citing successes from the Presidential Zonal Industrial Skilling Hubs.

Museveni confirmed that government has already paid the contractor for the Mityana–Mubende–Fort Portal road and cautioned leaders against misusing government funds. He also announced plans to reconstruct the Bundibugyo Road in the Rwenzori Sub-region, with funds already secured.

On education, the NRM Presidential Candidate promised to strengthen the district’s education sector, adding to the existing 61 government primary schools and 8 government secondary schools.

Museveni concluded by reaffirming the NRM’s commitment to maintaining peace and security nationwide and called on the people of Bunyangabu District to actively contribute to safeguarding stability for continued development and socioeconomic transformation.
