The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has pledged to introduce both micro and mega irrigation schemes to support coffee farmers in Bukomansi District, aimed at increasing agricultural productivity and farm yields.

President Museveni said the irrigation initiative has been benchmarked on the successful Presidential Banana Development Initiative implemented in Bushenyi District and will be replicated in Bukomansi as part of efforts to modernize agriculture.

He made the remarks while addressing an NRM presidential campaign rally held at Mirembe Muslim Primary School playgrounds in Bukomansi District.

The NRM flag bearer also committed to fast-tracking the expansion of government education infrastructure in the district, promising an increase in the number of government-aided primary and secondary schools beyond the current 22 primary schools and seven secondary schools.

During the rally, Museveni cautioned residents against confusing general development with personal wealth creation. He emphasized that while development is a collective responsibility of government, wealth creation remains an individual effort that citizens must actively pursue regardless of the level of public infrastructure in their area.

He further challenged the youth in Bukomansi District to focus on building wealth within their communities and discouraged unguided rural-to-urban migration. The President cited several success stories of farmers in the district who have accumulated wealth worth billions of shillings through agriculture under programs guided by the NRM government manifesto.

Museveni also promised increased funding for wealth creation initiatives, noting that more capital would be availed through revolving funds such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), the Youth Livelihood Programme, and the Women Empowerment Fund.

On infrastructure, the President confirmed plans to tarmac key roads in Bukomansi District, including the Sembabule–Mateete–Mbirizi road, the Mateete–Kibinge–Kyabakuza road, and the Villa Maria–Kyamulibwa–Kabulasoke road. He explained that road development follows the NRM government’s prioritization strategy, focusing on major routes first.

Museveni highlighted that the NRM government has delivered nearly four decades of peace and stability, creating a strong foundation for development. He attributed this progress to the NRM’s politics of unity and cohesion, which he said has strengthened national institutions and promoted prosperity.

He urged the people of Bukomansi District not to gamble with Uganda’s peace and stability, calling on them to re-elect him and all NRM flag bearers for another term to sustain peace, development, and socio-economic transformation as the country advances toward higher middle-income status.

The President also guided residents on viable wealth creation enterprises and the application of the four-acre model initiative as a pathway to household income growth.

At the event, Bukomansi District NRM Chairperson, Hajji Shafik Mwanje, officially presented the district memorandum to the President.
