Museveni Warns Busoga NRM Leaders Against Infighting, Urges Unity Ahead of Polls

By Jumah Kakomo and Kabuye Ronald

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party National Chairman and Presidential Candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has warned warring NRM faction leaders in the Busoga Sub-region against endless bickering, saying it undermines both the party’s strength and the socio-economic transformation of the people.

Addressing party leaders during an NRM meeting held in Iganga District, President Museveni called on leaders in Busoga to embrace humility and remain focused on the core interests of leadership that directly benefit their communities if they are to remain politically relevant.

His remarks followed the notable absence of some key leaders from the meeting, including the First Deputy Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, and Minister Persis Namugabi.

President Museveni further tasked NRM leaders in the Busoga Sub-region to intensify party mobilisation at village and parish levels, and to actively popularise the NRM manifesto ahead of next week’s polls.

He cautioned leaders from the region against engaging in sectarian politics based on tribe or religion, stressing that such divisions are incompatible with the NRM ideology. The President emphasized that the party’s politics of unity and patriotism reflect the kind of leadership Uganda needs to sustain development and socio-economic transformation, urging leaders in Busoga to remain firmly aligned with the NRM vision.

Museveni also underscored the importance of patriotism and regional integration, noting that these principles are central to the NRM’s long-term development agenda.

Reaffirming the party’s commitment to economic empowerment, the President assured the people of Busoga that the NRM remains focused on wealth creation through industrialisation, including sugar production, as well as access to socio-economic empowerment programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM). He also guided residents on effective land utilisation as a key driver of household income and regional prosperity.

Meanwhile, the NRM First National Vice Chairperson, Alhaji Moses Kigongo, rallied party leaders in Busoga to intensify campaign mobilisation across the sub-region to ensure a consolidated victory in the forthcoming polls.

The NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), Rt. Hon. Anita Among, highlighted several strategic interventions aimed at strengthening political coordination and development outcomes in the Busoga Sub-region.
