Museveni Blames Busoga poverty on leadership infighting, tribal divisions

By Mukembo Wilfred

President Yoweri Museveni has said that persistent infighting among leaders and deep-seated tribal sentiments are among the major reasons Busoga region remains poor.

The President noted that while political leaders engage in endless conflicts, it is ordinary citizens who suffer the consequences. He observed that many of the leaders involved in these disputes continue to enjoy luxurious lifestyles, including expensive vehicles while the wananchi they mobilize in their fights remain trapped in poverty.

President Museveni made the remarks while addressing a meeting of National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders from LC1 to district level, convened by the 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female), Rt. Hon. Anita Among, in Iganga District.

He urged leaders and residents of Busoga to rise above the divisions and instead focus on collective development aimed at transforming the region’s economy.

The President further emphasized that the peace ushered in by the NRM should be utilized to promote development, create wealth, and lift communities out of poverty, rather than being wasted on internal conflicts.
