Arsenal Fan Killed After Clash With Manchester United Supporter in Kampala

By Robert Segawa

Police in Old Kampala are investigating a murder incident in which an Arsenal fan was allegedly killed following a confrontation with a Manchester United supporter.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening at around 6:30 p.m. in Bakuli, a suburb of Kampala, during celebrations marking the final day of the English Premier League season, in which Arsenal were crowned champions.

The deceased has been identified as Denis, a 34-year-old boda boda rider and resident of Bakuli in Kampala Central Division.

The incident left residents in shock, with eyewitnesses reporting that the two men were involved in a heated argument before the violence erupted.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala identified the suspect, who is currently on the run, as Musiramu, a known Manchester United supporter.

According to preliminary police reports, Denis, an alleged Arsenal supporter, got into a misunderstanding with Musiramu. The disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical fight, during which the suspect allegedly struck Denis on the head with an object, causing him to collapse and die instantly.

Homicide detectives and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) cordoned off the area and recorded statements from eyewitnesses to assist with investigations. Police also recovered the suspected murder weapon, which will be used as evidence.

“We have intensified efforts to arrest the suspect, who fled immediately after the incident,” Kawala said.

The body was taken to City Mortuary Mulago for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.
