IGANGA – Police in Iganga have arrested a 19-year-old private security guard in connection with the fatal shooting of a bodaboda rider in Nakigo Sub-county.
The suspect has been identified as Kirya Edrine Shakul, an employee of Centurion Security Company and a resident of Kiyunga Village, Kisozi Sub-county, Kamuli District.

The incident occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on July 10, 2026, in Bugabwe Village, Nakigo Sub-county, Iganga District.
The deceased has been identified as Mulwana Nuraini, approximately 20 years old.
According to preliminary police investigations, Mulwana had visited a supermarket where Kirya was deployed on guard duty. Police allege that the security guard asked the deceased to leave the premises, but he reportedly ignored the request.
While addressing journalists, Police spokesperson ASP Michael Kasadha said the situation escalated into a verbal confrontation.
“Kirya requested the deceased to leave; however, his plea was disregarded. Subsequently, the deceased allegedly engaged in a verbal confrontation with the security guard, which prompted Kirya to discharge a single bullet that struck Mulwana Nuraini in the lower jaw, resulting in his death,” Kasadha said.

Police have since opened a murder by shooting case at Iganga Central Police Station.
A team of detectives led by the Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigations Department (OC CID) visited and documented the crime scene. The deceased’s body was taken to Iganga Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Investigators recovered the suspected murder weapon, identified as a Legacy Sports Reno NV 12 CA/MAGNUM (3”) shotgun, together with three live rounds of ammunition. One spent cartridge casing was also recovered from the scene.
ASP Kasadha said investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
