IGANGA – National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Nkwanga Hassan, popularly known as Sadam Hussein, has been elected the new LC1 Chairperson of Kasokoso Central I after securing a commanding victory in a closely contested election.
The race attracted three candidates: Nkwanga Hassan of NUP, independent candidate Jagenda Ayub, and National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer Tibukuza Tonny.
According to the official results, Nkwanga Hassan won the election with 190 votes, defeating independent candidate Jagenda Ayub, who garnered 40 votes, while NRM’s Tibukuza Tonny finished third with 22 votes.
Several voters said they supported Hassan because of his close relationship with residents and the strong grassroots support he has built over time. Many described him as a leader who has remained accessible to the community and actively engaged in addressing local concerns.
Speaking shortly after his victory, Hassan thanked the residents of Kasokoso Central I for the confidence they had placed in him and pledged to deliver quality leadership and improved service delivery to all residents without discrimination.
He also promised to work closely with the local business community to promote development and improve the welfare of traders and residents.
Kasokoso Central I is home to one of the busiest commercial areas in Iganga Municipality. The parish hosts Iganga Central Market, the municipality’s largest market, along with a vibrant business district that serves thousands of traders, shoppers, and transport operators every day. The area plays a key role in the local economy, making the LC1 leadership position strategically important for both residents and the business community.
Political observers say Hassan’s victory was largely driven by the overwhelming support he received from the business community, where he has been actively involved, as well as the strong grassroots campaign that characterized his bid for office.
