Kira Road Police are investigating the murder of a 22-year-old waitress who was found dead in a pool of blood inside her rented room in Bukoto, Kampala.
The deceased has been identified as Jovia Namuwulya, a resident of Mukalazi Zone, Bukoto I Parish, Nakawa Division, Kampala District.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, Namuwulya rented the room at the said address about seven months ago. After approximately three months, she reportedly received a female visitor identified as Turindamukama Rose, who later began staying with her in the same room.
Kawala said that on August 20, 2026, the caretaker of the premises received a telephone call from one of Namuwulya’s relatives, who was concerned after she failed to respond to repeated phone calls.
The caretaker, accompanied by the deceased’s sister, proceeded to Namuwulya’s room to check on her.
Upon arrival, they reportedly found the room locked. However, after looking through the windows, they noticed bloodstains inside.
The caretaker and the deceased’s sister, together with neighbours, later gained access to the room and found Namuwulya lying in a pool of blood.
Her friend and roommate, Turindamukama Rose, was nowhere to be found and is currently being sought by police in connection with the incident.
Kawala said officers from the Scene of Crime unit and the Homicide Department of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) visited the scene and recorded statements from eyewitnesses.
The deceased’s body was subsequently taken to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a postmortem examination.
Police have appealed to anyone with information that could assist in identifying, locating or arresting the suspect to report to the nearest police station.
Kawala also urged members of the public to exercise caution and to be mindful of the people they allow into their homes and those they trust with access to their property.
Investigations into the murder are ongoing.
