LDC Court Releases Journalist Mukose Arnold on Bail, Barred From Commenting on Case, UJA speaks Out

By Kabuye Ronald

Jailed journalist Arnold Anthony Mukose has been released on a cash bail of 1 million shillings following his detention over reinstated charges of allegedly publishing false and distressing news about the death of First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni.

The Law Development Centre (LDC) Court Magistrate, Joanita Muwanika, on Friday afternoon granted Mukose bail, ordering his sureties to execute a non-cash bail of Shs5 million.

However, the court barred Mukose from making any further public commentary about the case as part of his bail conditions.

Mukose was represented by lawyers Simon Peter Esom and Tumusiime Kato, while the prosecution was represented by Rachael Namutebi.

The Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) case monitoring team attended the proceedings under the leadership of its Secretary General, Emmanuel Kirunda.

Mukose had previously been released on a cash bail of Shs5 million before he was rearrested earlier this week over the same charges.

The case was adjourned to November 10 for further hearing.
