NOGAMU to Host Africa’s First Organic and Nature Expo in November

By Jumah Kakomo

The four-day event in Kampala is expected to attract more than 2,000 participants to discuss organic farming, investment and market opportunities

The National Organic Agricultural Movement of Uganda (NOGAMU), in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), the African Organic Network (AfrONet) and other stakeholders, is set to host the Organic and Nature Expo (ONE) from November 4 to 7, 2026, in Kampala.

The expo, which will be held at Hotel Africana as part of the fifth National Organic Week (NOW), is expected to attract more than 2,000 participants, including farmers, processors, exporters, buyers, investors, financial institutions, development partners and policymakers from across Africa.

Held under the theme “Organic and Regenerative Innovations: Africa’s Competitive Edge,” the event aims to promote organic agriculture, agroecology, regenerative farming and renewable energy as approaches to sustainable agricultural production and expanded market opportunities.

Speaking to journalists on Friday ahead of the event, NOGAMU chief executive officer Chariton Namuwoza said the expo would provide a platform for stakeholders to build partnerships, promote intra-African trade and showcase Uganda’s contribution to the development of organic agriculture.

Mr Namuwoza said the gathering would also connect agricultural producers and enterprises with buyers, financiers, researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders involved in the production, processing, marketing and consumption of organic and nature-based products.

Four days of exhibitions, discussions and field visits

NOGAMU board member Julie Nakalanda Matovu said the programme would begin on Wednesday, November 4, with the official opening and launch of ONE Africa and NOW 2026.

The opening day will feature discussions on intra-regional trade in organic, regenerative and agroecological products, as well as renewable energy solutions. Participants will also discuss the Kilimohai Green and Blue Marks and the role of women and young people in advancing sustainable agriculture.

On Thursday, November 5, attention will shift to the Organic and Regenerative Agriculture Conference, which will feature keynote presentations, case studies and World Café discussions on issues including soil health, agroforestry and market access.

The programme will also include practical clinics and structured business-to-business (B2B) meetings intended to help participants exchange knowledge, explore commercial opportunities and establish business partnerships.

Friday, November 6, will focus on regenerative coffee production and trade. Activities will include coffee cupping, meetings between coffee buyers and producers, discussions on financing the transition to regenerative practices, and sessions on quality standards and certification.

The day will conclude with a networking cocktail, giving participants an opportunity to establish professional contacts and explore potential collaborations.

The final day, Saturday, November 7, will feature organised field visits along three routes. Participants will visit farms, value-addition centres, processing enterprises and cooperatives to learn about practical approaches to organic and regenerative production.

Expo targets markets, investment and skills development

Ms Nakalanda said the expo was intended to create opportunities for participants to engage with policymakers, financiers and agricultural practitioners working to advance organic and regenerative agriculture across Africa.

The exhibition and B2B matchmaking sessions are expected to connect producers, exporters, buyers, investors and service providers, potentially opening up opportunities for trade and investment.

Participants will also have opportunities to gain practical knowledge in soil health management, organic inputs, agroforestry and certification. The planned field visits are intended to expose them to agricultural enterprises applying organic and regenerative practices.

By bringing together exhibitions, policy discussions, technical learning and business networking, the organisers hope to strengthen links between environmental sustainability, enterprise development and agricultural trade.

Ms Nakalanda called on government institutions, development partners, private-sector organisations, financial institutions, researchers, media practitioners, farmers, agricultural enterprises and consumers to participate in and support the event.

The organisers say the gathering will provide an opportunity to strengthen cooperation among stakeholders involved in the production, regulation, financing, research, marketing and consumption of organic and nature-based products.

They also expect the event to contribute to efforts to develop more resilient, inclusive and competitive African food systems by encouraging collaboration among agricultural producers, policymakers, investors and market players.

The fifth National Organic Week and the launch of the Organic and Nature Expo will therefore bring stakeholders together to discuss opportunities and challenges facing the organic agriculture sector and explore ways of expanding its contribution to livelihoods, trade and sustainable development.
