The Uganda Police Force has intensified investigations into the murder of a Rwandan national who was found beheaded in Mpigi District over the weekend.
The deceased has been identified as Sgt. Major Robert Kabera, 50, who reportedly fled his home country in 2021.

The gruesome incident is believed to have occurred either in the evening of October 16 or during the early morning hours of October 17, 2026, at Luwala Village, Kamengo Sub-county, along the Masaka Highway in Mpigi District.
Addressing journalists at Police Headquarters in Naguru on Monday, Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said the deceased had been identified by relatives, although scientific procedures were still required to conclusively establish his identity.
Rusoke said the body had been taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination, but the victim’s head had not yet been recovered.

Sources have indicated that Kabera had been living in Uganda as a refugee since fleeing Rwanda. Other claims suggest that he had made statements critical of his home country. However, these allegations have not been independently verified, and police investigations are ongoing.

Rusoke said investigators were pursuing leads into the circumstances surrounding the killing and were recording statements from relevant witnesses, including the deceased’s relatives and residents of the area.
Police are expected to establish the motive behind the murder, identify those responsible and determine the circumstances under which Kabera was killed as investigations continue.
