City lawyer Mabirizi to sue government over suspension of 54 NGOs

By Ahmed Ssenoga

Following the National Bureau for Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO Bureau) under the Ministry of Internal Affairs decision revoking operational licenses and certificates 54 NGOs, City lawyer Hassan Male Mabirizi has now threatened to sue the entity.

In his intention to sue letter addressed to the executive director of the National Bureau for Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO Bureau), Mabirizi asserts that his office has been turned into a political persecution tool for the government critics.

“I have come to a conclusion that contrary to article 43 (2)a of the constitution, your office has been turned into a political persecution tool to which you and your staff and board members may be held criminally liable under the Anti-Corruption act 2009.” He wrote

Mabiriza has now given the NGO Bureau up to 21 days to provide him with all the document in line with article 41 of the constitution so that he prepares for both civil and crime proceedings against the entity.
