FDC’S Amuriat arrested for knocking down Mbarara DPC

By Mukembo Wilfred

Police have on Friday morning arrested FDC Presidential flag bearer and party president Eng. Patrick Amuriat Oboi on charges of knocking down the Mbarara district police commander John Rutagira while he was trying to stop him from proceeding on a boda boda.

“Amuriat has been arrested and taken back to Mbarara to answer charges of why he knocked the DPC and also why he didn’t follow the procedures while campaigning in Mbarara,” said the Police spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi, Martial Tumusiime,

Amuriat’s arrest at Bushenyi- Rubirizi board came hours after police in Mbarara said they were looking for the boda boda rider who allegedly knocked down Mr Rutagira on Wednesday as he attempted to block the presidential candidate.

Rwizi Regional Spokesperson, Mr Samson Kasasira said in a statement that the rider was on the run but police would charge him with reckless driving and causing an accident.

On his campaign trail in greater Mbarara, Amuriat and police failed to agree on the routes to use to reach Kakyeeka Stadium in Mbarara city were he had to address a campaign which prompted Amuriat to jump onto a boda boda which knocked DPC Rutagira while he was trying to intercept him.
