NGOs concerned about the narrowing democratic space in the country

The Uganda national NGO forum has expressed concern over continued assaults and the narrowing democratic space in Uganda as the country ahead to 2021 general elections to next week.

Led by Henry Muguzi director alliance for finance monitoring, they assert that 2020 has been a very eventful year in Uganda’s politics whereby the country unfortunately witnessed continued assault on opposition political actors, journalists and the general public by state security agencies.

Muguzi says that security agencies has turned ita habit and an occupation to curtail political activities of mainly the opposition political actors.

He added that, the killing of innocent Ugandans in broad daylight as witnessed in the demonstrations of 18th and 29th November 2020 and the arrest of hundreds of Ugandans that up to date continue are in detention, exposes how low the country has sunk security wise.

Sarah Birete chief executive officer at center for constitutional governance expressed worry over the technology set by electoral commission to be used in the general election predicting how elections are likely not to be free and fair.
