Finally Uganda gov’t unblocks social media and internet services

Uganda government has finally lifted a ban on social media and other related internet services in the country by restoring it on Wednesday morning.

The news of its restoration was communicated by the state minister for information and national guidance Hon. Peter Ogwang via his official twitter handle.

Social media and internet was totally shutdown on the 13th of January 2021 a day to the general elections and only internet was partially restored five days after the election.

In his communication Ogwang apologized for the inconveniences caused saying it was necessary for the security of the country hence urging the users to be constructive.

“Internet and social media services have been fully restored. We apologize for the inconveniences caused, but it was for the security of our country. Let’s be constructive, not destructive consumers/users of social media” said Ogwang

During the period of the shutdown, the public has been able to access social media usingthe Virtual Private Network VPN.
